What is a surgical sperm retrieval PESA TESE?

When there is no sperm in the man’s ejaculate, his consultant may recommend a surgical sperm retrieval where sperm is extracted from the testicles under anaesthesia.

What’s involved?

Under anaesthetic, a fine needle is passed into the testicles to remove sperm directly. The sperm can then be injected into the egg via ICSI during an IVF cycle.
